Three Games to Play with Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk chalk is a staple for warm weather play that will keep your kids occupied for hours.
Playing with chalk is a great activity to bring out on a nice day when your kids are feeling creative and you feel like teaching them some things you used to use chalk for when you were younger. Some treasured games to play with chalk include classic hopscotch, four square, and twister. These games can double as learning games and ignite part of your kids’ brains, without them even noticing. Read on to find out more about the top three games to play with sidewalk chalk.
Hopscotch is a game your great grandparents played and is one that your kids will love today. Let your kids help you draw the course, so they get in on the creation of the game, too. Have fun using different colors and shapes to draw the hopscotch course, and then let your kid go for it. One he or she has mastered their moves, have them try to double hop for an added challenge.
Four square is a classic school favorite that is enjoyed by kids of all ages. Start by drawing a Four-square court, putting the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 in individual squares. You’ll need four players, and each one stands in their own square. The player in square number four bounces the ball in their own square first, and then sends it into one of the other three squares. The ball must bounce in the square of the kid receiving the ball only once before he or she hits it into another square. If that doesn’t happen, that player is out of the game, and the last player standing, wins.
Twister is a game loved by kids of all ages, and it’s easy to recreate with sidewalk chalk. Simply choose four colors and draw your own board with each of the colors in four different shapes. Instead of using the spinner like in the board game, designate someone to call out a color and a shape. Have your kids try to stay balanced with their arms and legs all over the board. The first one to fall down is out!
